At Solventum, we proudly support our veteran and active duty military members who have selflessly served across all U.S. branches. Their unique experiences and rich variety of perspectives are instrumental in helping us solve complex healthcare challenges for our customers.

We invite you to join us in this blog series to get to know some of our Solventum employees who have military experience.

Name:
Mecredi Cruder
Role at Solventum: Federal senior account manager
Military branch: Army
Rank: Lieutenant colonel
Length of service: 20 years, 14 days

1. Share your military background. What motivated you to join? Why did you choose the branch you chose?

My background in the military was health information management, but we termed it patient administration. In the hospital setting, we managed the patient administration division, which encompassed outpatient records, inpatient records, patient accountability (initiated of birth/death certificates and maintained hospital bed status), patient admissions and coordination of medical evacuations to other facilities.

When we deployed, we did many of the same duties with fewer resources and technology in an austere environment. In addition, we played a huge role in understanding medical capabilities within our regional responsibility and ensuring that proper medical evacuations were coordinated, monitored and tracked until the patient arrived at the destination.

I was commissioned in the military at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and joined to fulfill my obligated four years. I chose the Army because they offered more benefits like education and bonuses.

2. How has your experience shaped you? What are some lessons or skills learned that you apply to your everyday life?

It definitely had its pros and cons, but out of it, I learned to be patient and flexible, look at situations from all sides and work as a team. We all have the same goal, just different objectives to accomplish that goal.

3. How does your experience impact your role at Solventum?

Being on the corporate side is eye opening. I approach each situation differently. I always try to tackle each situation from a customer perspective (internal and external) and try to have a positive attitude.

Mecredi’s story is just one of many unique experiences our veteran employees bring to work each day. Make sure you’re subscribed to receive updates from Solventum Inside Angle and stay tuned for more!
