Iliana Gilman
Iliana Gilman is a healthcare executive who has led transformational change in publicly funded, government, and non-profit healthcare settings for 15 years. Currently, she is a Principal for Health Management Associates. During her career, she has launched innovative healthcare approaches with an emphasis on trauma-informed care, leveraged opportunities for organizational transformation, and developed integrated healthcare and social service models. Her experience includes the development of initiatives in health equity, social determinants of health, public health, community-based care, and population health.
Before joining HMA, she served as the CEO of a faith-based non-profit in South Austin and provided culturally responsive care to meet the changing needs of more than 13,000 Latinxs experiencing poverty. Ms. Gilman led the strategic direction of effective medical, education, and emergency food assistance services. During her time, she increased patient access by 30 percent through program development including patient navigation, telepsychiatry, health literacy, teen pregnancy prevention, a mobile food pantry, family planning, youth-friendly initiatives, spiritual supports. In addition, Ms. Gilman spearheaded the integration of social determinants of health programming for continuity of care, drove patient/family engagement, improved quality measures, and launched initiatives to prepare for value-based reimbursement.
Her career in healthcare began with Austin’s local mental health authority, where she advanced market position, equity initiatives, public policy, and strategic planning to increase access and achieve high-quality care for more than 25,000 patients as the chief strategy officer. Examples include developing scalable strategies for the adoption of culturally responsive care delivery models and a higher-functioning future to significantly improve the health of the communities served. Ms. Gilman was responsible for internal/external communication strategy, drove community engagement, and built lasting relationships with government officials. Utilizing brand development and marketing strategies, she elevated the organization’s profile, garnering a 15 percent increase in awareness among targeted populations and spearheaded rebranding efforts to reshape the organization’s standing into one of a responsive community resource and valuable partner.
She has more than 25 years of experience in marketing, communications, and public relations. Ms. Gilman earned her master’s degree in media studies from The New School in New York and a bachelor’s degree in public relations and journalism from the University of Texas.
