About the Case

A 48-year-old male, in pre-treatment for oral rehabilitation, presented with black spaces, a high degree of wear on his mandibular incisal edges, and non-carious cervical lesions. Using the Bioclear™ Method in combination with 3M Restorative Materials, it was possible to restore this case in a single office visit. This approach provides a simple, fast, predictable and non-invasive solution for what would have otherwise been a very difficult clinical challenge.
Initial situation
After biofilm removal, the Bioclear™ Black Triangle Gauge was used to determine which color-coded matrix to choose.
Color-coded matrices were selected to correspond to the Black Triangle Gauge and seated sub-gingivally.
Preparation
Selective enamel etch
The teeth were etched with 3M™ Scotchbond™ Universal Etchant with the Bioclear™ Matrices in place.
3M™ Scotchbond™ Universal Adhesive was applied, rubbed for 20 seconds, air dried for 5 seconds, and light cured for 10 seconds.
3M™ Scotchbond™ Universal Plus Adhesive
Results
After a second layer of uncured adhesive was placed, 3M™ Filtek™ Supreme Flowable Restorative, shade A2, was injected into the contours of the matrix but not light cured.
3M™ Filtek™ Universal Restorative was added using the injection molding technique and light cured.
Application
After using a spatula to shape the restoration within the matrix, the composite was light cured from the facial, incisal and lingual surfaces and the matrices were removed.
Excess composite was removed with a fine diamond bur.
Final light cure
The composite was finished and polished using 3M™ Sof-Lex™ Contouring and Polishing Discs.
Final results.
